Nepal a tiny Himalayan Kingdom situated between two large countries China and India is the land of the birthplace of Lord Buddha "The light of Asia" & famed Gorkha warriors. Nepal is also known as the land of Himalayas as it consists eight of the highest ten mountains over 8000 meters, including the highest mountain Mt. Everest, the top of the world.
The Kingdom of Nepal is well known as one of the best destinations in the world for enjoying the real combination of nature and the culture. The centuries old cities, panoramic views of the Himalayas, green forest with different types of wild animals and more than 800 species of birds and above all warm greeting from smiling and friendly people makes Nepal popular destination.
The capital city Kathmandu is famous for its cultural heritage which is surrounded by the beautiful landscapes and the views of the mighty Himalayas. Within 30 Km of surrounding, there are seven heritage sites including old cities, temples and Monasteries under the preservation of UNESCO.
Kathmandu Valley :
It is the historic seat of royalty. The Durbar Square, with its old temples and places, summarize the religious and cultural life of the people. It is here that kings of Nepal are crowned and their coronations
solemnized.

Interesting things to see here are: Taleju Temple built by king Mahendra Malla in 1549 AD, Kal Bhairav, the God of destruction, Nautalle Durbar, Coronation Nasal Chowk, the Gaddi Baithak, the statue of King Pratap Malla, the big Drum and the Jagannath Temple. On the right hand corner, a large wooden lattice screen hides an enormous gilded face of Sweta Bhairav. It is about of 12ft tall. The screen is opened only during the Indra Jatra festival. There are also the Numismatic Museum and Tribhuvan Museum inside the Hanuman Dhoka Palace building. Photography is prohibited inside the museum. Both the museums remain closed on Tuesdays and government holidays.
Budhanilkantha : About 8 km north of Kathmandu, at the base of shivapuri hill is a remarkable colossal statue of Lord Vishnu, reclining on a bed of snakes. This is one of the masterpieces of the stone sculptures of the Lichchhavi period. This fifth century statue is in the middle of a small pond and seems to float in water where the king & his successor can't visit this place because of the historic reasons.

Swayambhunath : This is one of the world's most glorious Buddist Chaityas. It is said to be 2,000 years old. Painted on the four sides of the spire bases are the all-seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. It is 3 km west of Kathmandu city and is situated on a hillock about 77m. above the level of the Kathmandu Valley from where the total view of the Kathmandu valley can be observed. It is the place where one month long "Gunla" festival is held in a year. Behind this hillock, the National History Museum is
located. This museum has a unique collection of butterflies, fish, reptiles, birds, mammals, plants and a variety of
fossils collected within the country. Photography inside the museum is prohibited.
Pashupatinath Temple : At 5 km east of Kathmandu & about 1.5 km west of Tribhuwan International
Airport, the temple of Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath, with two tiered golden roof and silver door is situated. It is considered one of the holiest shrines for the Hindus. Although only Hindus are allowed inside the temples, visitors can clearly see the temples and the activities performed in the temple premises from the eastern bank of the Bagmati river. The main day of this place is the "Shivaratri" festival, popularly known as the night of Lord Shiva. Near Pashupatinath Temple there is another historic and holy temple of Guheswari. Only Hindus are allowed to enter the temple courtyard. One interesting thing in these place is the monkeys living in the premises of Pashupatinath & the Guheswari, never exchanges thier places because it may be the cause of their death. Photography inside these premises is prohibited. At the east of Pashupatinath temple, a small forest named "Shlesmantak Ban" is located. It was one of the meditation place of Lord Shiva.
Patan Krishna Mandir : Built in the 17th century, the temple of Lord Krishna holds a commanding position in the palace complex of Patan. It is supposed to be the first specimen of Shikhara style architecture in Nepal. It is the only temple in Nepal having 21 spires and is completely made of stone. Inside the temple, the walls are painted that represents some of the interesting historic moments during that time of lord "Krishna".
Bhaktapur City
Bhaktapur is a home of medieval art and architecture. Shaped like a conch shell, Bhaktapur means the 'city of devotees'. Pottery and weaving are its traditional industries. The City is about 15 km from Kathmandu.
Nagarkot
Nagarkot is a popular resort of Nepal. It is situated 32 km east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175m above the sea level. It is a place which offers great mountain views. If you wake up at dawn, you'll see the sun appear over the Himalaya. The view is stunning. There are a number of trekking routes to and from Nagarkot. You can take a short trek for a few hours to 2 days and the surrounding countryside is great for walking.
Dhulikhel
This ancient town is situated 30 km east of Kathmandu. It is a popular Himalayan viewpoint. From there you can have a complete panoramic view of the snowy ranges from Karyolung in the east to Himalchuli in the west. The old part of this town is an interesting area to wander around with some fine old Nepalese buildings and several interesting temples. From there you can also take a day trip to the Tibet border or Tatopani, a place which is famous for hot sulfur spring.
Pokhara Valley
Pokhara Pokhara lies 200 km from Kathmandu and it is a place of remarkable natural beauty. The serenity of Phewa Lake and the magnificence of the fish-tailed summit of Machhapuchhre (6,977m) rising behind it create an ambiance of peace and magic. A perpetual place to relax, Pokhara is an oasis where leisurely meals, good books and short walk can easily fill several days. It is the starting point for some of the most famous treks in Nepal and there are plenty of short walks and day trips that can be made around the valley. Lumbini
Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, is situated in the Terai plains of southern Nepal. Listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Lumbini is being developed with international support as the supreme Buddhist pilgrimage and a symbol of world peace. Thousands visit this sacred site each year as they retrace Gautam Buddha's steps in his quest for enlightenment.
