In 1992, I made a life long dream come true by travelling to Nepal and going on a trek into the Himalayas. I went with a wonderful trekking company based in Brisbane called 'Backtrack Adventures' and we trekked into the Annapurnas to the Annapurna Sanctuary or Base Camp. It was a camping adventure with 8 other people and it was to set a precedent in my 'walking life'. |
| I returned to Nepal in 1999, travelling with some friends. I had been writing to some Nepali friends for the past 7 years and together, we arranged a trek up towards Everest. After this successful trip, I started going back every year or second year with friends or family and we have now enjoyed many treks and adventures to different parts of Nepal. Our nepali friends have become our family as well, and this relationship has been invaluable in getting to know this beautiful country and its people on a deeper and more meaningful level. |
I love to make the trips to Nepal relaxed and full of fun as well as doing some serious adventure walking. We usually stay in 'Tea Houses' which are small lodges run by the local people. We have porters to carry the main luggage required for a trek and we carry some lighter day packs. We have 'sherpa guides' to make sure we are safe and well taken care of and that we don't stray from the trail. The Himalayas are awe inspiring and no amount of photos can capture their incredible nature. Life is simple on the trail. All meals are provided. Food is basic but good. With a good pair of boots and a backpack on your back...you can take off to anywhere! |
We also spend some time visiting all the hot tourist spots in Nepal's capital - the exotic Kathmandu. We spend time immersing ourselves in the culture and spiritual nature of life in one of the largest Hindu kingdoms on earth. Buddhism is also practiced here and the nepali people's religions are an open, intergral and fascinating aspect of everyday life. And we even find time for lots of shopping! It's a shopper's paradise with everything from locally crafted wood sculptures to hand painted religious pictures called Thankas to beautiful hand-woven carpets to so much jewellery you'll think you are in alladdin's cave! And so much more. Or find a quiet time for yourself in one of the many inspiring temples or museums. So, if, like me you've had a life long wish to visit this exciting place or whether it has stimulated your interest for the first time...why don't you contact me and see what plans we have coming up in the near future. I'll take you through every aspect of what it means to travel in Nepal; show you some stunning photos and slides; have meetings with other people who have been or are going and prepare you for one of travel's most life - enhancing experiences. |
Next Sept/Oct, we have a trip planned which is shorter and less arduous but still full of adventure, colour, spectacle and excitement. Our goal is Tengboche and attending one of the major buddhist festivals of the year called Mani Rhimdu. A three week trip to Nepal with a 13 day trek. A spectacular introduction to everything nepalese. If you are interested in coming, please contact me. Namaste |

This October (2005), a group of eight of us are going on a trek called 'Up Everest Way' for 19 days. Starting in Lukla and travelling to the bustling mountainside market town of Namche Bazaar. Walking up to over 4000m to the beautiful Tengboche plateau with one of the largest Buddhist monasteries outside of Tibet and surrounded by a 360 degree view of the Himalayan range. Then onwards and upwards to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp at over 5000m. A truly awesome adventure.
