We started out as an email list just to see if any friends or family wanted to go walking. Now it's even a bigger and ever - expanding email list which has become a walking group called - High Spirits Adventures.

We do day walks and sometimes overnight and weekend walks around south - east Queensland including city walks in Brisbane. Sometimes we expand to other adventurous activities like cycling and canoeing etc. It's a very social group of mainly amateur walkers of different ages and ability. The walks are comprehensively detailed in the nature of the walk; degree of difficulty and fitness required; directions, car - pooling etc and length of walk.

Most come from my ideas but I welcome ideas from everyone in the group. Recently 2 members of our group, planned and led a walk around Spring Hill and the city which provided not only a good, strenuous walk but commentary on local history and interesting current and cultural events. It was a very enjoyable half day event that culminated in lunch at the Roma Street Parklands restaurant.

'Away walks' are generally planned for every 6 weeks or so. Some of the walks we have done have been:

  • walks on the Lamington Plateau at Binna Burra & O'Reilly's
  • Springbrook National Park
  • Mt. Barney region ( a once a year weekend adventure as well as day walking)
  • Cunningham's Gap
  • Cooloola National Park
  • Bribie Island beach walk
  • Mt. Mee - one of our most recent and enjoyable half day walks planned by a member

and many more.

There are no fees or meetings for our walking group. Usually I ask for a gold coin donation on all away walks just to cover costs.

In between away walks, we go walking around, up and over and every way inbetween at Mt. Coot-tha every Sunday morning from 2-4hrs depending on how we feel and also if there are any Nepal or other treks looming. It's a great training ground for that type of trekking.

The highlight is the meeting up with other walking groups on the mountain at Kate's Outlook Deli afterwards. Balancing the exercise with delicious tea & coffee and other culinary delights!

So if you want to join in on our fun and fitness activities and meet all kinds of people - just send me your email or snail mail address and I'll keep you 'in the loop'. You may well see a newsletter popping up on your computer screens that starts like this_
